Warner Bros. Interactive is to cease supporting ambitious toys-to-life title LEGO Dimensions, the publisher has confirmed.
"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group would like to thank fans for their ongoing support of LEGO Dimensions," reads the firm's official statement. "After careful consideration, we will not be producing new expansion packs for the game beyond what is now available. We will continue to provide ongoing server and customer support for all LEGO Dimensions packs. Existing packs will continue to work interchangeably and will remain available for purchase.
Launched in 2015, LEGO Dimensions brought together a vast array of licenses including the likes of DC Comics, The Hobbit, Sonic the Hedgehog and Back to the Future, allowing fans to embark on mash-up style adventures by scanning in their real-life LEGO Dimensions figures.
The announcement will be seen by many as the death knell of the toys-to-life genre, with LEGO's effort following the fate of Disney's now-defunct Disney Infinity. Activision's Skylanders franchise is on an indefinite haitus, while Ubisoft is developing a new variation on the genre with Starlink.
From building and rebuilding to the most bricktacular mash-ups, the Multiverse would be nothing without our amazing community. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/NEDbBXqjyZ
