After deciding that Lawrence and Monica would have a bunch of kids, I needed to make some child size Medieval costumes. I had chosen a girl and boy in both KID and BID size. Problem was, I only had a suitable Medieval costume for Nami (and similar sized BID friends) The only other ones I had are Fantasy Adventurer outfits which really wouldn't do for royal children at home in the castle. Which meant I had to make some.
So first up would be the KID girl gowns. I chose two different fabric combinations. I figured I might as well make two right away, so Paige would have something to change into, or she could have a friend to join her from time to time.
The sleeves were made first, and then they were sewn into the bodices....
After sewing the underarm seams and hand-stitching the linings inside the bodices, the next step will be the skirts. I wasn't really paying attention to 'fabric drape' when I chose the various fabrics. They are all super flimsy, synthetic brocades, all cut from used clothing from Value Village, and are proving very challenging to work with. I chose them because they were 'thin', but they are very slippery and fray like crazy. But I'm determined to push on and make them work.....
