This one has the Fashion Fever body with articulated legs. Her arms are the ones that Barbie collectors actually call ballet arms.
Tracie as I have named her is wearing a Fashion Avenue outfit.

Ever wanted a cute horse for your dolly photography? Well, Saddle Stars is a solid option for you. New and sold exclusively at Target, Saddle Stars is a line of 1/6 scale horse toys. So far, there is one horse in the line, Skye. A second horse is teased on their website as coming soon, Pixie.

Let’s talk about Skye. Skye is a 1/6th-ish scale horse made of hollow plastic, like most horse toys out today. She’s not articulated, unfortunately, but she stands well in her molded pose.

What drew me to this toy was the look. This is a very pretty horse! Her eyes are basic black with a dark grey above them and her snout is also accented with black. These elements look really good on her tan skin. She’s not flocked, by the way. Her body is, as I said, a hard plastic. (Check out the video review, linked below!)

One thing that would have been nice to have on this horse toy would have been lashes, since horses tend to have very prominent lashes, but Skye still has a very pretty face without them.

Her mane and tail feature soft, long blonde hair, which is easy to style.

Skye comes with a number accessories. They are: a turquoise/maroon plastic saddle, a bridle and reins, a brown saddle blanket, a saddle bag (which can attach to the saddle), a comb, four hair clips and two sets of colorful horse shoes.

The saddle bag is really nice. It’s molded plastic, but opens so you can store your extra horseshoes or hair clips inside. The fringe and braided shoulder strap are real faux suede.

The horseshoes are pretty neat. Skye’s foot is molded with indents that allow these colorful horseshoes to fit tight (for the most part) on the horse’s hoof. It’s a fun way to play with Skye that I don’t recall being in other horse lines.

Skye comes in a large box. The graphics on the box are beautiful. I love the artwork! This will definitely stand out on store shelves. The box has a flap that opens, which allows shoppers to see Skye, as well as learn more about her unique personality. Each horse has a journal entry and a list of likes that help you relate to the horse, more so than you might a toy without these little details.

As far as scaling goes, we tried a few dolls on top of this horse and think the 27cm BJD’s looked the best. This horse is too small for 18″ dolls, but should allow 1/6th scale dolls to pose relatively well, depending on their outfits.

I think Skye will come in handy during dolly photoshoots. She’s the cutest horse toy I’ve seen in a long time. Also, I love the accessories, especially the horseshoes. I look forward to seeing the other horses in the Saddle Stars line! You can follow the line via facebook or via their website!

Fireman Sam, Spider-Man and Batman among kids' favourite heroes

To mark Prince George’s 4th birthday, Mattel on behalf of Fireman Sam, carried out a national survey with little ones to discover who their modern day hero was.

Mum and dad topped the list of 50 heroes, while the unlikely addition of Simon Cowell and Bruce Lee also make the cut.

Unsurprisingly, famous characters such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Spider-Man, Star Wars’ Rey and Mattel’s very own Fireman Sam were also selected as kids’ heroes.

Even though mum took the top spot on the listing, dad wasn’t far behind with a difference of two per cent, coming in second place.

“We are delighted to have celebrated Prince George’s 4th birthday by discovering which iconic fictional characters and real life heroes are hugely important to modern children growing up,” said Helen Genia, senior consumer products category manager at Mattel Emea and UK.

Spin Master named master toy licensee for Monster Jam

Spin Master has been named worldwide master toy licensee for motorsport racing franchise Monster Jam, it has been announced.

The toymaker signed the decade-long agreement with Feld Entertainment and will now produce toys and collectables for the worldwide market.

Monster Jam produces over 400 events each year across five continents to millions of families in attendance. Its broadcasts of live events reach millions on the FOX Sports family of networks in addition to their digital reach. The Monster Jam franchise includes a wide range of toys and products featuring well known, larger-than-life intellectual property like: Grave Digger, Max-D, Megalodon, Monster Mutt and El Toro Loco.

"Monster Jam is a compelling global brand led by an extraordinarily talented group of individuals," said Ronnen Harary, Spin Master's co-chief executive officer. "We are very excited about our long-term partnership and welcome the Monster Jam brand into the Spin Master portfolio with exciting product offerings that stimulate play beyond the performances their fans know and love."

The Monster Jam portfolio includes a wide range of toys and products to create extended play opportunities for kids that will continue to grow with the support of Spin Master's global research and development network and innovative marketing.

Trends UK readies Scribble Me Miraculous bag line

Trends UK is bolstering its licensed offering with the addition of the new Scribble Me Miraculous colouring bags range.

Licensed from Bulldog Licensing and ZAG Animation Studios, the bags star the Ladybug and Cat Noir characters from the hit TV show.

Each bag can be customised to suit every child, plus they can also be coloured in with the permanent markers provided.

Slated for release in A/W17, the line boasts a Miraculous Handbag, Miraculous Purse and Miraculous Shoulder Bag for £12.99 each, as well as the Miraculous Messenger Bag and Miraculous Backpack priced at £14.99.

3bn Playmobil figures fill out kids' homes

Over three billion Playmobil figures have made their way into the homes of children across the globe, reports the toy company.

The 7.5cm-tall figures, which are played with around the world, now outnumber the total combined population of Africa, Europe, Oceania, North and South America.

“It’s an exciting year for Playmobil, not only have we reached this milestone it is also the year in which we have released our first entertainment licensed sets,” said Jamie Dickinson from Playmobil.

“We will continue to grow and bring happiness to children all over the world. As a leading manufacturer of toys the name Playmobil goes hand in hand with fun, imagination and playtime all over the world, which is something we are very proud of.”

For the first time in the company's history, two licenced sets incluidng Ghostbusters and How to Train Your Dragon will hit retailers' shelves in 2017.

With over 100 million figures produced and distributed every year, the three million mark looks set to grow yearly.

Future proof: Tomy outlines Christmas plans, highlights new tech toys

What do you predict will be Tomy’s biggest product this Christmas?

Nicola Jenkins: I think we’ve got a lot of different products for different consumers, whether that’s our gifting items including Baby’s First Christmas or Pokémon for all of the Pokémon fans out there and our new lines that are coming out. And of course we’ve then got Lightseekers. Lightseekers is our new tech toy it’s the next level of connected play with toys, action figures, trading cards with a free to download mobile game. For me this is going to be the must-have and we’re already seeing that reaction. The technology is something we’ve not seen before. The different products in the range stand alone in their own right and they all come together for this ultimate experience, so this brand is going to be really, really strong I think.

Lightseekers brings several different forms of product together for a multiplatform experience, is this a strategy Tomy plans to bring to other brands?

Jenkins: I think Lightseekers is truly unique, it’s really ground-breaking especially when you think about a mobile game that’s free to download with no in-game currency. I don’t necessarily think that translates to every property that we own, but obviously, technology is more important to the children of today and tomorrow and we will continue to watch trends and utilise that in our new product development.

The different products in the Lightseekers range stand alone in their own right and they all come together for this ultimate experience.

Nicola Jenkins, Tomy

How has business been for Tomy so far this year?

Jenkins: Tomy’s had an excellent last year, actually we had a stellar last Christmas period and we were growing in seven of our eight super categories. We had some really great success stories like Foam Cone Factory for our Bath category or our Toomies bath range, Pokémon was flying for us so we’ve had a great start to the year. From an economic standpoint, it is a period of unknown at the moment and we’re working to be as flexible and nimble as possible because of this. We’re really excited about the products we’re launching this AW. The reaction’s been great and I expect us to have another brilliant Christmas period.

How is the economy going to effect spending this Christmas season?

Jenkins: I wish I had a crystal ball and I could predict that! Ultimately, consumers are out there and spending. They are willing to spend on the items that matter to them, items that have a unique selling proposition, that have something that they demand as a consumer. I think they’re willing to pay for quality. So I think in terms of considered purchases there is a lot of opportunities out there and there will always be the lower priced items, the impulse-buy purchases, that will still continue to drive the toy category.

What strength sets Tomy apart from other toy firms?

Jenkins: Tomy has a great depth of portfolio. We offer products for every age range and consumer audience. We have an excellent lead product development team based in the US and here in the UK, and we also have the heritage and strength of Tomy Japan, the number one toy brand in the nation. So I think we have the really interesting angle of a global company with local strategies and opportunities for products around the world. So we’ve got that global strength with a local company execution and that’s a really important thing for us to make us flexible.

Interstellar Ambition: 343 Industries talks the legacy of the Halo brand

Ever since its debut on the original Xbox in 2001, the Halo series has come to define the console first person shooter through its expansive world and groundbreaking combat mechanics. Indeed, it was Halo: Combat Evolved that revolutionised the console shooter, popularising the FPS genre that had previously been largely a PC affair, to millions of new players.

As the years went on, so did the Halo brand grow to encompass not only a rich legacy of core game titles but also novels, comics, animations and even a live action TV shows, all expertly produced with the marketing power of Microsoft behind them. With fans now eagerly awaiting the concluding chapter to the series' second trilogy in Halo 6, fans have plenty to sink their teeth into with spin-off games, apparel, toys, gifts and more. To find out more about Halo's place at the forefront of the licensing space, we sat down with John Friend, head of consumer products at 343 Industries.

Why has Halo remained consistently popular since its debut in 2001?

John Friend: Halo has always been about two things, rich, compelling storytelling and equally compelling gameplay.  Halo is a science fiction adventure at its core, and with Master Chief, we have a hero at the centre of this universe that our fans actually get to become. Through 11 games, dozens of novels, comic books, animated and live action content, the Halo universe is as robust today as it was 16 years ago.  Combine that with gameplay that has remained enjoyable and innovative since day one, and it has created a recipe for success as Xbox’s flagship franchise.

What are the stand-out upcoming projects for Halo consumer products?

Friend: Halo consumer products is a 365 program in the marketplace where we continue to innovate and introduce new products for our young and old fans alike. We are very excited about our continued toy lines through MEGA Construx and Mattel, which are always fan and community favourites. This year marked the introduction of Halo branded Boys’ Apparel in the US, Mexico, and UK. The boy's space remains a strong place of growth for the Halo brand as we continue to expand into new categories through 2018. This fall we will be releasing the follow up to the very popular Halo: Mythos book with Halo: Warfleet – an illustrated guide to the spacecraft of Halo. In addition, we are happy to be working with Funko again on a new line of collectable POP Figures due to release in early 2018. We also have a VERY exciting top-secret project for 2018 that we aren’t quite ready to talk about, but is guaranteed to excite Halo fans around the world.

With Halo 6 still a ways off, how will the Halo brand remain present in the minds of fans?

Friend: We are very proud of the offerings that Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Wars 2, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection provide for players on the Xbox One console. We have also recently announced that we will be bringing the entire Halo Xbox 360 catalogue to the Xbox One platform via the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program. And with the Xbox One X scheduled to release this holiday season, we will also see updates coming to both Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2 to make these marquis titles enhanced with 4k visuals. We will continue to support our passionate fan base with new and exciting offerings with the games they love, and press our story forward with new novels, comics, toys, collectables and more!

Tell us about the licensing activity around the recent launch of Halo Wars 2.

Friend: We worked closely with several of our licensees to create exclusive product based on Halo Wars 2, globally, including Mattel/Mega (Action Figures, Construction Toys), Bioworld International (apparel and accessories) with an exclusive program at Hot Topic, PDP (Xbox controllers), and Seagate (Xbox external hard drives).  Additionally, we partnered with Forbidden Planet to create an in-store promotional event including interviews and signings with members of Creative Assembly (developer of Halo Wars 2) supported by direct-to-retail product, and licensed product.

Tell us about Halo’s place in the world of eSports.

Friend: Halo was one of the first console titles to bring the world of eSports into the mainstream. In the early days of competitive shooters, fans and pros alike credit the scenes that came out of Halo 2 and Halo 3 as laying the foundation to modern eSports. Today, through the Halo Championship Series (our professional eSports league), the future of console eSports looks bright with Halo 5: Guardians. This past March marked our second annual Halo World Championship, becoming the most watched Halo eSports event in history with 12 million unique viewers.  And with a prize pool of over $1.2 million, the stakes have never been higher in Halo eSports.
