I live in the town just east of Toronto, on the edge of suburbia, just south of a sprawling green space. At least that's what it's always been. But for forty years they've been planning a whole new stand-alone city north of us, with over 100,000 homes, malls, and everything a city needs. And they have finally started work on it.
I used to love going for a drive in the country, just minutes north of us, but everything is changing. This is the kind of scene I'd use up there for doll photos.....taken just two years ago....
But this is what it looked like this past weekend.....
The woods and tree-lined roads have been clear-cut....with the bigger logs piled up....
...and anything small enough to go through a shredder, turned into mulch.....
The boys couldn't believe their eyes....
They walked down what was left of the road in the fall photo above....
Normally I wouldn't take photos with my dolls so out of scale, but I had to show them in relation to the reality of the situation.....
"Look at that...."
"Look at how old these trees were....hundreds of years old!"
Ringo felt angry, and was fighting back the tears....
"So much for 'progress' !!"
