My first adventure stop on the cruise with Brooke was in Ålesund, Norway. Even though it rained on and off all day, I had a great time exploring Sunnmøre Museum with Brooke! Sunnmøre Museum is an open-air historical museum with more than 50 buildings. It was constructed on the site of the medieval town of Borgund.
Brooke and I had fun scrambling around and peeking inside the different buildings. It was raining for most of our time there, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. I loved the sod roofs on the different buildings! I've heard that some people would put goats on their roof, but I don't know if they did that at Sunnmøre or not!
I loved the rocks along the little shoreline. They were a little slippery, but very fun to climb. I was worried I'd fall into the water, but luckily I didn't. Wouldn't it have been fun to grow up along the fjords?
I just realized that the rock in this photo looks a little bit like a headstone! Don't worry, it isn't! I think it was some sort of hitching post. Unfortunately, there weren't many interpretive signs and the ones that were available were written in Norwegian!
Here I am climbing some a ramp to a barn! Brooke and I were going to take photos in the barn, but it was very dark. Oops. Then, another tour group came and we weren't able to get a clear photo without lots of people. Still, it was very fun to play in. I don't want to say that Norway and Sweden are the same (they aren't!), but playing at Sunnmøre Museum reminded me a lot of a favorite book of mine. It's called The Children of Noisy Village and it was written by Astrid Lindgren. Astrid Lindgren also wrote the book Pippi Longstocking. I'm a city girl, so imagining living in a small village is fun for me.
Once it finally stopped raining, it was time for a fun photo shoot! Keep an eye out for my next blog post so that you can see what we did for the photo shoot.
Have you ever visited a historical park? Where did you go? What did you do there?
