Jan started making a fireplace for my dolls, before all this surgery stuff hit the fan. He's continued to work on it, even though my photo plans are all up in the air right now. He made imitation 'brick', by sawing indents into a pine board, which I then sponge-painted to look more like brick.
Next step is to touch up the wood stain on the surround, then varnish it, and paint the 'wall' above. I've picked up two nice picture frames at Value Village in the last few weeks, and think they will work nicely for artwork for on the wall above the mantle. There's a 4x6" fancy gold frame....

...and a super fancy 5x7" vertical frame....
I'm thinking that each house that uses this fireplace will need it's own artwork above the mantle, and that that artwork will be in keeping with the theme of that particular room - whether it be a rustic cabin, a fireplace in a contemporary home, or in a period room setting.
Of course, I'm starting out by making a wreath to go up there for Christmas.
